Marcia Gibson-Watt, BA, born Marcia Cary in 1949 in Chelsea, London, is a graduate of Kingston Art College where she specialised in Graphic Design. She also studied life drawing in Florence at Studio Simi. Since her marriage to Robin in 1971, she has lived and worked in Wales; they have four children and six grandchildren.
She has exhibited in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition on several occasions and has sold many large landscapes and flower paintings in Wales as well as all over the world. She has also specialised in miniatures and Dolls House micro-miniatures. A varied selection of prints, cards and postcards of her work are on sale.
At varying stages of her career, she has designed wallpaper patterns for Laura Ashley; provided wall paintings for a major Welsh hotel; designed the labels for an English vineyard and a vineyard in the Nappa Valley, California and has illustrated three prayer books. In 2003 Marcia had a solo exhibition at the Memphis Botanical Gardens, Tennessee, USA.
She has travelled widely to the USA, Russia, India, Nepal, Kashmir, Sri Lanka, Norway, Romania, France and Italy and she gets much of her inspiration from these varying landscapes. Her work is characterised by an impressionist approach, using varying techniques with rich colours, soft pastels on acrylic, creating an evocative feel for her subject. Recently she has worked in oils on both board, canvas and paper.
